Bike-friendly Bogotá

Bike-friendly Bogotá

Biking is an ideal way to discover Bogotá and its secrets.

The capital has over 370 kilometres of cycling tracks, more than any other Latin American city. Commissioned between 1998 and 2001, with most of them specially built and reserved for bikes, they follow the large arteries, while others use the bus lanes or wind through parks. This is a perfect way to roam the streets of the historical colonial centre of La Candelaria, to ambulate through parks or perhaps stop at a market, and to discover the essential cultural sites like the Gold Museum and the Botero Foundation. It is also ideal for viewing the graffiti adorning the city's walls and reflecting on the creativity of the Bogotános.

On Sundays and holidays, from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the main avenues are closed to traffic and the streets are lined with fruit juice and food vendors, artists, and bicycle-repair stands. There are organised tours to discover the city, especially in areas where it would be unwise to venture alone.
