David Krut Projects: front-row culture

Bookstore, exhibition space, print workshop, and more, the alternative arts institution David Krut Projects works with contemporary South African art and artists in myriad ways.

Renowned for its temporary exhibitions and its many art publications available in limited editions, the David Krut Projects arts initiative, which now has a New York branch, allows you to take the pulse of the arts scene while deepening your African cultural knowledge.

The organization has an experimental workshop, the David Krut Print Workshop, in which artists can create freely: Among those who have worked here are Wiliam Kentridge, Deborah Bell, Mongezi Ncaphayi, Jaco van Schalkwyk, Diane Victor, Mary Wafer, Senzo Shabangu, Stephen Hobbs, Maja Maljevic, Robyn Penn, Jürgen Partenheimer and Locust Jones.

Interest in South African art is growing, thanks to the work of the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, which focuses on contemporary artists and supports collections, which was far from the case in the past. The relaxed atmosphere of this elegant place of creation is particularly popular with the trendy minds of Johannesburg.
