Hiking in the Japanese mountains

Breathe in the fresh air of Mount Kongo, close to Osaka, to discover splendid Japanese temples hidden away among the trees and to take in the magic of the place.

Located between the Osaka prefecture and Nara, Mount Kongo, whose highest point is at 1,125 metres in altitude, is a formidable spot for hiking. A dozen paths are practicable, from which you will discover marvellous landscapes and treasures of Japanese culture such as temples and a castle in ruins. During your ascension, stop and admire the Katsuragi Shrine and the Temporinji Temple. The latter was opened more than 1,300 years ago by an ascetic.

Cross through the Chihaya ruins, built by a Japanese samurai, then when the panorama opens up, catch your breath in front of the immense landscapes that are spread out before you. To reach Mount Kongo, you need to take a bus from the Kawachi-Nagano station towards the Kongosan cable car. The departure point of the cable car is a few minutes walk from the bus stop.
