In a place where time has no hold, the temples, pagodas, communal and family houses, and shops convey this city's past. The oldest part of the city lies along the banks of the Thu Bon River. Further west, the Japanese district with its amazing covered pagoda bridge reflects the rich cultural exchange of what was once one of the main commercial ports of Southeast Asia. Most of the older homes, recognisable by their wooden beams, carved doors, and spacious rooms opening onto courtyards, have been converted into craft and souvenir shops, and restaurants. While in Hôi An have the favourite pieces of your wardrobe remade by tailors, but be careful about negotiation and finishes. Only a few kilometres from Hôi An, beautiful, relaxing beaches await you.
