The priceless Douro Valley lies at the heart of the Cima Corgo region. In its midst, Quinta do Seixo spreads over schist rock terraces (only 5 feet large) upon which only one vine stock is grown to allow for pesticide-free mechanical weeding. Note that the site has been designated a world heritage site by the UNESCO. More than a hundred purely Portuguese grape varieties grow there to produce port wine, Portugal's most famous drink.
Great Wine Centres such as Sandeman offer vineyard tours. Choose between the classic visit and tasting, to the uncommon picnic amongst the hundred-year old vines with the Douro at your feet. You'll also be able to discover local food, cheese and other secret produce, and even visit the award-winning Vau Vintage winery. On your way back to Porto, do not miss to stop by the historical wine cellars (built in 1790) of the institution, which logo is easily identifiable by the caped Don wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
